another character sketch... a different take and simpler in style..

ART

Been working on and off this one for 2 weeks now. finally calling it done. started out as a random sketch and thought maybe it'll turn out alright in color. It's a different style of coloring, as i'm experimenting with different styles at the moment.

It's not of any character in particular. Haven't come up with a name for this char yet.. calling him ART for now. will try to make a few more characters to see if I can come up with a group of characters and get a cohesive look.

Ibuki finished

Been working on this one on and off for 2 weeks now.. i finally put this one to bed and am calling it done.
was fudging with the clouds in the BG for a bit because I wasn't liking the placement and composition but got it to a point where it looked alright, could be better... and I added a couple of more birds in addition to the 1 I already had in the sketch. (the one she's stepping on). I'm really happy with how Ibuki turned out. It's probably not how she'd look in the game or in the official character art... but I'm liking this little crossover experiment so far. will try to crank out a few more of these.

I'm also starting to get used to the Painter brushes and how they differ from PS brushes. I'll need a couple of more paintings under my belt before I am fully comfortable with Painter's work flow though.

Ibuki

Here's my latest one... Ibuki. I told ya i'd get to her, Jimmy! you just had to wait... :p
this is a WIP btw.
I figured the best thing to get out of an artist/creative block is some good ol' fashion fan art to the rescue!
I might have already mentioned this but I'm in a Street Fighter Hype!!!
my mind is all Street Fighter these days.

I'm really liking how this one is turning out. I have a full body shot of her but I'll wait till I finish the whole thing for the reveal.

Really starting to get used to the style now.
My approach is very much the same as the Chun li, done in painter and sketched in photoshop.
After looking at the Ibuki, I might wanna do another Chunli later on. Not too happy with how Chun Li's face turned out.

But I'm currently working on a large montage of all the classic Street Fighter Characters... and I mean classic.. CHAMPION EDITION!!! So after I finish that one, I'll continue with more characters. I will be posting a sketch of the montage as soon as I clean the sketch up.

Step 2 and final Chun Li

STEP 2

Here's a 2nd step and how the final image of my Chun Li turned out.

Step2- I didn't want to settle on the composition JUST yet.. so I played with a square frame. Added some cherry blossom branches in the BG to suggest Spring... like in the "CHUN" in Chun li.

Final- I reverted to the Original composition but with different cropping. Added more details and tried to make most of my line work vanish - not completely, but a good balance. Overall time spent about 5 hours over the span of 2-3 days.

This is my rare attempts at painter... was kinda inspired by some stuff at cgtalk
and some artist blogs I frequent and really envy the painterly quality their work possess, so thought I'd take a stab at it again. I never really got into Painter in the first place because I'm very into the hotkeys and being that I use photoshop all the time, I was in a comfort zone I guess, so I gave up on Painter. But with Painter 9 & 10, for me, the layout is much similar to Photoshop so there is a sense of familiarity. I'll definitely use more of it in the future and hope to get more efficient at it.

Chun li

here's my Chun li fan art. It's been a while since I drew her.. last I remember was back in highschool when Street Fighter 3 first came out. ah.. memories.. anyway I'm kinda liking how this one is coming along.. thought I'd post a couple of steps of it as it progresses.. so here's stage one.
and yes. I'm injecting a bit of Amano into all my stuff now.
